“When an artist hits the exact spot, when the aim is sure, this scarcity of mark and line has eloquence and dimension more than equal to a densely covered canvas, sheer volume of paint or charcoal.”
Nicki Jackowska
Elegant…eloquent…beautifully simple….these are some ways to describe the drawings and paintings of Tom Homewood. He is able to capture a quiet moment, in a park, on a city street, in a way that makes the ordinary very special, with a style that is both direct and tender. Tom has painted travellers on the London Underground with the same care and lovely precision as singers from The National Opera Studio. This ability to make the everyday special continues in his landscape paintings, He has the instincts to choose a spot with no special features, just grey sky, damp grass, possibly a tree - and with delicate layers of oil over minimal, powerful graphite marks make it all of the exhilarating walks you’ve ever had rolled into one.
Tom trained at Brighton and at Kent, gaining a BA (Hons) in Fine Art & Illustration. He has developed his artistic practice alongside working as Creative Director of Michael Bell Associates, and his work has recently been the subject of several solo exhibitions.
